Dr. Herbert Silverstein, MD, FACS, will present the 7th Howard P. House, MD, Memorial Lecture for Advances in Otology. The annual Academy of Otolaryngology event will be held on September 10, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Silverstein’s lecture will address innovations within the community.

The lecture is named after Howard P. House, MD, whose desire and ability to share his passion for research, innovation, and education within the Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) community has been exceptional.

Dr. Silverstein is the founder and president of the Silverstein Institute in Sarasota and Venice, Florida. The Silverstein Institute is the world’s leading research center for diagnosing, treating, and curing ENT (ear, nose, and throat) disorders. Silverstein offers the most advanced diagnostic and specialty care for disorders of the head, neck, ears, nose, and throat.

Dr. Silverstein, a pioneer in the treatment of Meniere’s Disease, opened the institute in 1979 and has been treating serious otolaryngological issues since its inception. Dr. Silverstein and his medical specialists- a team with expertise in a wide range of ENT disciplines – have become leaders in the treatment of hearing loss, Meniere’s Disease, and Tinnitus, as well as dizziness and balance disorders stemming from problems within the ear.

In what has been an outstanding and distinguished career spanning five decades, Dr. Silverstein has worked diligently to improve the quality of life for each and every patient. He has developed surgical and diagnostic procedures, invented procedural instruments, taught medical students, and lectured extensively as a leader in Otology (Ear). Dr. Silverstein has been one of the most prolific writers in the field, authoring over 248 scientific papers as well as seven textbooks.

Before arriving in Sarasota in 1973, Dr. Silverstein served as a professor at Harvard University Medical School, the Massachusetts Ear & Eye Infirmary, and directed the Otological Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Since 1979, Dr. Silverstein has repeatedly been elected to a list of the Best Doctors in the U.S.A.

Dr. Silverstein was previously chosen for the 2nd Howard P. House Award for Excellence in Ear Surgery. His dedication to the innovations in otology, education, and improving the lives of his patients has earned Dr. Silverstein worldwide respect.

Dr. Silverstein stated that he was “very honored” to speak at the event, as he believes the topic of his lecture “honors the spirit of Dr. House’s lectureship.”
