Hyperacusis, or noise intolerance, affects a small percentage of the population. People with this problem find it difficult to be in loud restaurants and noisy situations and their quality of life may be affected. Ringing in the ears, or tinnitus, will often accompany hyperacusis. A research study is currently underway to investigate hyperacusis treatment options.
